Over the past two weeks of term 4 the Kereru team have been trialing for the Counties Athletics day later this term.

The events consist of multiple track and field events. The track events are 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m.

The field events are Shot Put, Discus, Long jump and High jump.

While Trialing if you get into the top five for any events you are considered to be put into the

Counties to represent Reremoana school, So good luck to any of you who get in and try your best to get into the team.

CupCake Sale

On Octoer the 4th we ran a cupcake sale stand. All the money raised will be a donation to schools in Christchurch. We asked them what they wanted most, that was money so they could buy them the resources they needed. The amount we raised was a significant amount, $ 451.20 dollars.

The Kereru team students from each class were asked to make half a dozen to a dozen cupcakes to sell on the day. The cupcake sale team were succesful to raise this much money to help Christchurch. Thanks for all the support.

Technology with Miss Harland

This year the yr 7&8 students have been doing a technology rotation. One the rotations we did was Video Photography with Miss Harland.

Part of the making of this movie was learning all the different angles and techniques of the Bloggie (video camera). The next step of making this movie is planing. This is the hardest step of this whole making of the movie because we only had two days to complete the task of making the movie itself. When we had finished the planing, we went of to video all the other technology groups. When we were in the stage of videoing the other groups, we took some photos of the people in action, we did some panning of the room, and some interviews of the teachers and students. When we had finished all the videoing we had to come in and edit all the videos that we took. When we finished all the editing Miss Harland put all of the edited pieces togeather to make the final film.

The whole group got togeather and sat down to watch the movie with some popcorn. For the people doing video photography in the next rotation you will definitly enjoy it because I had a great time.

Athlectics Training [Shotput, longjump]

On the 26th October Room 2 had the oppurtunity to train for Athletics before the trials. Our training

consisted of Shotput and Longjump.

First we were taught by Miss Clarke the technique of how to jump and land in the pit. We were taught that when you jump you have to throw your arms forward to increase your jump.

Secondly we were taught how to hold and throw the shotput by Mrs Notley. She taught us how to postion ourselves when preparing for the throw. The movement we use to throw the ball is shuffle, shuffle PUSH!!

Synonyms

Lately in Room 2 we have been learning about Synonyms. A synonym is a word with the same or similar meaning. Each student got a word each and had to find synonyms that relate to the word. We then had to come up with a design with the word we got given and make that word bold (so it is the main word) and present the synonyms with it. We then got to colour in our design. The idea is to help us to develop our vocabulary for writing.

Synonyms

Novel Study

For Term 3 Reading, we started an activity called Novel Study.

There were two parts to Novel Study.

*First we had to read a novel, and do the activities before, during, and after reading it. During the novel we stopped at every 1 or 2 chapters (depending on the amount of chapters in the novel) and answered the questions.

*Next we made and presented our work onto a Corrugated

Card or Card Display Chart. We completed activities including

- Plot Summary

- Character studies

- About the Author

- Text-to-World Connections

- Other Books

- Conflict

- and Opinion.

We enjoyed completing these activities and presenting the work because it helps us with our reading and presentation skills.
